TECHNOLOGY is making boat-building easier and has opened up a new do-it-yourself market.

Hunter-based Schionning Marine is showing home boat-builders how to create vessels like this 12.5 metre power catamaran with the aid of computers.

The company is hosting a muster at Port Stephens from today until Sunday.

Three power and three sailing catamarans are on display at Lemon Tree Passage marina today.

At 12 Industrial Crescent, Lemon Tree Passage, Brett Schionning, will hold a boat-building demonstration, and races are scheduled tomorrow and on Sunday, starting from Tanilba Bay Sailing Club.

This Alaskan 41 was launched in May. Use of pre-cut parts took work time from about 8000 hours to 7000 hours, about a year's work for four people.

The Alaskan 41 retails for about $870,000, but could be built for about $500,000.
